upcoming classes and workshops

6/17, 10am-12pm: NOURISH!  // Fresh food access should be accessible to every family. Even when markets are physically accessible, the cost of fresh, local food remains a barrier for many families. Nourish! is a series of food demonstrations specifically designed to curate simple, nutritious meals using seasonal produce.  Through Nourish! we hope to welcome all segments of our community to participate, but we want to extend an intentional welcome to SNAP shoppers.  Location: Forsyth Farmers’ Market at Forsyth Park, East Park St. between Drayton and Whitaker Sts., Savannah, GA. Presented with the generous support of the Georgia Farmers’ Market Association.

6/23, 6-8pm: HERBAL FIRST AID KIT // Learn the basics of building an herbal first aid kit for your home or for travel. We’ll discuss herbs that can help in everyday emergencies (burns, cuts and scrapes, swelling/bruising, etc.) and how basic herbal knowledge can help in acute situations— and when it can’t help. We’ll also make a few products that you can bring home to get your first aid kit started. Location: Space Station at Starlandia Supply, 2438 Bull St., Savannah, GA.  Registration required–visit Starlandia or call 912-417-4561 to register.

7/7, 6-8pm: TEAS + TINCTURES: THE BASICS // In this session we’ll explore the different ways to make herbal teas (including plenty of tasting) and how to use them to support health and wellness. We’ll also learn the basics of making tinctures and other herbal extracts, and the importance of tastes and energetics. Leave with sample blends of your own tea/tincture, plus learning materials. Location: Space Station at Starlandia Supply, 2438 Bull St., Savannah, GA.  Registration required–visit Starlandia or call 912-417-4561 to register.

I am also a lead instructor for Centro Ashé’s Grassroots Herbal Program, which offers a wide range of herbal and herb-related classes each spring, summer and fall at a beautiful farm and education center less than an hour south of Washington, DC.  Deepen your knowledge of our local plant allies through hands-on medicine-making and apothecary work, lectures and discussion with knowledgeable instructors and engaged classmates, and growing herbs throughout the seasons–from seed to harvest. This is the only program of its kind in the DMV area! Click here for more information about this excellent community resource and educational opportunity.

If you’re interested in deepening your herbal knowledge in an affordable online format, consider the Herbal Academy.  In addition to their accessible, affordable online courses (offered at the introductory, intermediate and advanced levels), they also publish The Herbarium, a membership-based online herbal library and digital resource.
