A TASTE OF AFRICAN HERITAGE HEALTHY COOKING CLASSES
I’m excited to be returning to teach Oldways’ A Taste of African Heritage cooking course several times in 2018 through partnerships with the Forsyth Farmers’ Market, the YMCA, and other community groups.
I LOVE this class because of the delicious and creative ways it brings the African Heritage Diet Pyramid to life, showing people how to eat and cook healthfully, traditionally, and enjoyably through hands-on experience. With lesson plans that simultaneously teach history, nutrition, and cooking techniques, the program introduces participants to the rich cultural history of African heritage foods while providing them the tools they need to adopt this traditional way of eating for better health in modern day life.
More information about this program is at Oldways’ site.
Location: West Broad YMCA, 1110 May St., Savannah, GA 31415
Cost: Free, with food donation toward each class
Register: Send an email to email@example.com.
Other things to know: Participants must commit to all six weeks of the course. SNAP and EBT recipients are especially encouraged to participate in this class and to train to be ATOAH course instructors! All Savannah ATOAH classes are child-friendly.

I am also a lead instructor for Centro Ashé’s Grassroots Herbal Program, which offers a wide range of herbal and herb-related classes each spring, summer and fall at a beautiful farm and education center less than an hour south of Washington, DC. Deepen your knowledge of our local plant allies through hands-on medicine-making and apothecary work, lectures and discussion with knowledgeable instructors and engaged classmates, and growing herbs throughout the seasons–from seed to harvest. This is the only program of its kind in the DMV area! Click here for more information about this excellent community resource and educational opportunity.
If you’re interested in deepening your herbal knowledge in an affordable online format, consider the Herbal Academy. In addition to their accessible, affordable online courses (offered at the introductory, intermediate and advanced levels), they also publish The Herbarium, a membership-based online herbal library and digital resource.
